It was supposed to be a fun night out for both parties; a few drinks with mates and good times on the dance floor. However, what started as an innocent evening boiled over into a violent confrontation that left Jack Lee with a laceration under his eye and Jen Bronson charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (and a wine-stained cashmere jumper).

Presented for ANU Virtual Open Week 2020, this mock trial showcases our law students' mooting skills in the case of DPP (ACT) v Bronson. The Crown (or prosecutor) will make the case that Mr Lee, a diminutive rugby player, was attacked by Jen Bronson in revenge after he spilt his drink on her at the Playground Bar on the night of 15 September 2019.

The defence has a different contention, however, insisting the "drunk karate master" Mr Lee cornered Ms Bronson and posed a "clear and present danger" to the apprentice carpenter, leaving her with no choice but to act in self-defence. This mock trial is a must-watch for aspiring lawyers, providing an authentic taste of opening and closing statements, witness examinations, grounds for objection and more.
