From fleeing the civil war in her native Liberia to pursuing six university degrees across four continents, Dr Veronica Fynn Bruey's (PhD '19) journey through academia and life has been nothing short of remarkable. Raised by a single mother with seven siblings in poverty, she spent nearly a decade in refugee camps in Ghana before relocating to Canada. It was there that she first met ANU Law Professor Mick Dodson, who would go on to be her supervisor for her doctoral studies. Her dissertation examined gender violence and the rule of law in Australian Indigenous communities and post-war Liberia.
