Becoming a Practitioner (BAP) an introduction to lawyers' skills and is preparation for the rest of the program. This introductory course takes place over four consecutive days and is compulsory for all students. It is taught by practising lawyers and barristers in locations across the country.

The education approach is one of 'learning by doing' and the practical sessions cover:

  • interviewing and advising

  • client communications

  • problem solving and teamwork

  • dispute resolution and negotiation

  • legal writing

  • legal analysis

  • advocacy

Each day of the course goes from 9am until 5pm. The course requires some pre-reading, available online before the course start date. Students will be able to access the pre-reading once they have applied to the program (GDLP or MLP), accepted their offer, and enrolled in the BAP course.
